Jenin / Ali Samoudi – A leader of Hamas and the political coordinator of the prisoner movement in Israeli prisons, Al-Abbas, revealed today that the party has supported negotiating a comprehensive national reconciliation since the day of the division.
A letter leaked from the sixth round of dialogue states that, "Hamas has made many efforts to bridge the gap since the forced control of the Gaza Strip, and has spoken to many intermediaries in this regard. However, we have encountered a rigid position on this subject by our brothers in Ramallah."
Al-Abbas went on to say that Hamas is seeking to achieve, after two years of division on the ground, "a genuine reconciliation on a national level to ensure coordination in the policies and strategies of all the forces and factions of our people. We believe that this will lead to the achievement of a genuine national dialogue based on the liberation of our people and to a better coordination of our armed resistance forces."
Thursday’s letter said that Hamas had gone to the Cairo dialogue with this goal in mind.
A breakthrough if for today and that the Fateh and Hamas movements will work together to achieve peace for the Palestinian people and to realize that the national struggle can not be won in a fragmented and disintegrating Palestine.
