Largest Arab broadcast news event ready for May 2009
12.12.08 - 19:42
As a member of the board of the Arab Broadcast Forum, PNN is pleased to publish the announcement of the fourth annual ABF which will be held at the King Hussein bin Talal Convention Centre at the Dead Sea in Jordan in May 2009.
ABF is a not-for-profit event that brings together broadcast news executives and journalists from around the world to discuss the state of the broadcast news industry.
ABF - Under the patronage of HRH Princess Rym al Ali of Jordan and hosted by Jordanian TV (JTV), more than 325 broadcast news journalists and executives will converge at the beautiful resort site to discuss the state of the Arab broadcast news industry.
ABF will take place shortly after the World Economic Forum (WEF) Middle East meeting, which concludes on 17 May. Depending on set-up time required, ABF will take place on either 19-20 May or 20-21. The final date will be selected shortly and will be posted on the ABF website:
The first three ABF conferences, each of which took place in Abu Dhabi, proved to be the region’s most innovative, topical and controversial debates about issues relating to all broadcast news outlets in the region. Abu Dhabi TV, which served as host broadcaster for these events, broadcast each ABF conference live in its entirety.
Now, ABF moves from the Gulf region to the geo-political crossroads of the Arab World. “Bordering Iraq, Syria, Palestine and Israel, Jordan is at the centre of the key issues facing the Arab world today,” said Abdul Hamid al Zaidi, chairman of the Arab Broadcast Forum. “We are delighted to bring ABF to Jordan and open up new discussion opportunities for our conference.”
HRH Princess Rym al Ali is currently trying to form the region’s first Arabic-language graduate school of journalism. Her Highness says: “I’m pleased to lend my patronage to such an important conference that will bring together some of the world’s leading journalists, news executives and political and business leaders. By hosting the Forum, Jordan reaffirms its regional role as an open platform for the media.”
The venue announcement was made at News Xchange, the largest global conference for the international broadcast news industry. Immediately following the News Xchange conference, ABF’s editorial board met to outline the hard-hitting agenda for the May ’09 conference and features executives from some of the world’s leading broadcasters, including: Al Arabiya, Al Jazeera, Al Jazeera English, Abu Dhabi TV, AP Television News, BBC Arabic, CNN International, Deutsche Welle, Fox News, France 24, Jordan TV, LBC, Reuters TV, and Russia Today/Rusiya Al Yaum.
