On the occasion of the Day of Solidarity, Palestinians call for the application of international law Print E-mail

ImageOn the occasion of the Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People a collective call is being issued by all Palestinian factions. The request is simple, yet somehow unattainable as of yet: apply international law, including the Fourth Geneva Conventions, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and in particular, United Nations resolutions.

The Palestinian Liberation Movement, Fateh, said that if the UN simply applied the resolutions already on the books, regardless of those that did not make it due to the United States veto, the injustice would be rectified.

Hundreds of UN resolutions in both the Security Council and the General Assembly were passed throughout decades of struggle, intended to be applied “in order to bring justice to the Palestinian people and end their suffering.”

The Fateh statement continued on 29 November, “Despite the passage of all of these contracts, the suffering of our people continues, and the Israeli occupation continues in all its manifestations. On this day we ask that international law be applied and affirm that the Palestinian national struggle will not falter until we achieve our right to freedom and independence.”

The leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine said that it is incumbent upon the international community to put law into action on the ground without bargaining. “The laws are in place. They need to be applied now. It has been long enough.”

The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine issued a statement of its own today. “On this day we declare that the steadfastness of our people will continue to resist the mightiest killing machine and an instrument of destruction in the world. The most urgent need is for global solidarity to achieve our legitimate goals: independence, an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as capital, and to guarantee the Right of Return for Palestinian refugees to return to the homes from which they were driven by force in 1948. This is international law.”

Appreciation was issued to the French, Italian and Spanish efforts to end the “brutal Israeli aggression on our people and to compel the government of Israel to comply with internationally legitimate resolutions that effect so deeply the rights of our people.”

The International Court of Justice rulings in the Hague were called to be applied and hopes were high to quickly implement the Palestinian national unity government so that “together, in the process of our struggle, we might achieve the aspirations of our people: freedom and return.”
