Israeli channel I24NEWS reported that an anticipated meeting next week between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump could affect the future of the Gaza Strip and grant Turkey a significant advantage in the region.
The channel said Ankara is seeking to entrench its presence in Gaza, while Israel is opposing such a move. It added that Trump may pressure Tel Aviv to agree to a Turkish military presence under the pretext of a peacekeeping force, a step expected to bolster Turkey’s standing as a “champion of the Islamic world”.
The report pointed to regional divisions, noting that the United Arab Emirates is watching developments with concern, while Saudi Arabia is focusing on swift steps and US gestures. It also referred to internal generational differences within the kingdom over the Palestinian issue.
According to the report, Israel is adopting a cautious stance and is prepared to consider the Turkish proposal, provided public clarifications are made and hostile statements against Israel are corrected. Meanwhile, regional mediators led by Turkey and Qatar are continuing to push for Ankara’s inclusion in an international force aimed at stabilising Gaza.
