The Mediterranean Trails Network (MTN) was officially launched today, with principal support from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the participation of Oxfam and the World Bank.
The founding bodies include three trail-specialized organizations: the Jordan Trail Association, the Palestine Heritage Trail, and the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association, along with two French partners—AFRAT and Tetraktys—who bring extensive expertise in rural development.

The network aims to represent the most significant hiking trails across the Mediterranean region, contributing to the support of local communities by promoting economic growth, protecting natural and cultural heritage, and enabling adaptation to climate change.
MTN is committed to promoting sustainable and responsible tourism, fostering cultural exchange, and supporting economic development along the hiking routes.
During the official launch event, the founding members were introduced, and the shared vision for strengthening community-based tourism was presented—highlighting the unique value of the natural and cultural heritage connected to Mediterranean hiking trails.

George Rishmawi, General Manager of the Palestine Heritage Trail and Co-Chair of the Network, said: “Ultimately, our focus is on impact at the local level. By connecting major trails, we can attract international support, exchange best practices, and channel resources directly to communities, strengthening local economies and preserving the unique identity of our regions.”
The Mediterranean Trails Network (MTN) is a dedicated association that promotes regional cooperation among destination-management organizations (DMOs) and stakeholders involved in hiking trails across the Mediterranean.
