Jibril Rajoub, President of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA), strongly condemned today the teargas attack by Israeli occupation forces last night on Faisal Al Husseini International Stadium in the town of Al-Ram, north of Jerusalem.
Last night, Israeli occupation forces broke into the Faisal Al Husseini International Stadium and fired teargas into the pitch and into the stands, halting the final of the Abu Ammar Cup for an hour as scores of players and fans suffocated from gas inhalation.
Rajoub described the attack as "a premeditated assault intended to harm the lives of our people and the lives of our players," and that it was "a stain on the forehead of the [Israeli] occupation."
The Israeli attack appears to be unprovoked, as the Israeli occupation authorities have not issued a statement regarding the incident or who ordered the troops to attack players and fans in the stadium.
Rajoub confirmed that the PFA "will reach out the whole world, including the Asian and International Football Associations, to put an end to this terrorism being practiced against Palestinian sports and athletes."
He stressed that the unprovoked Israeli attack on the stadium stands as "a proof of the Israeli occupation's crimes against our people."
"We believe that this evidence can form a basis for confronting the crimes of the occupation against our people and against sports by these neo-Nazis," said Rajoub.
