Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said today that there has has been progress in some issues and tracks following the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm al-Sheikh, which was held yesterday.

Al-Sheikh took it to his official Twitter account to say that some "there are still some outstanding and disputed files."

"The Sharm AlSheikh negotiations were characterized by difficulty in the face of the Palestinian delegation's firm position by refusing to engage in any security or economic path before reaching a political agreement where Israel is committed to stopping all unilateral measures," he tweeted.

"There has been progress in some issues and tracks, and there are still some outstanding and disputed files," the PLO official concluded.

The meeting at the Egyptian resort town is a follow-up to last month’s meeting at the Jordanian Red Sea port city of Aqaba attended by the Palestinian Authority, Jordan, Egypt, Israel and the United States, which discussed easing the tension in the occupied Palestinian territories following Israel’s large military escalation into the Palestinian cities that so far resulted in the killing of 86 Palestinians, including 18 children, two elderly men, and one woman, and the injury of many others.

While participants in the Aqaba meeting agreed to take steps to calm down the situation before the advent of the holy Muslim fast month of Ramadan, expected to start on Thursday, tension nevertheless remained high in the occupied Palestinian territories as Israel continued in its almost daily raids and killing of Palestinians.
