While Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas gave a diplomatic visit to the German chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, he took this opportunity to remind the need for European countries to recognize Palestinian's statehood. He also called on Germany and other countries surroundings for fostering the peace process in Middle East.

“Palestine is under occupation for decades, this must come to an end,” he said. Therefore, he asserts the need for international community to defend a peace in the Middle East based on the two-state based solution.

Following this statement, he ensured that if Palestine could wins full membership at the United Nations, this would facilitate a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“Recognizing Palestine's statehood will help us, and will support finding a solution” Abbas told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

“All we want is freedom and stability in a sovereign and democratic state, in which all citizens will enjoy equal rights,” he stressed.

In respond to this, German chancellor Olaf Scholz, confirmed his support for a two-state solution and he expressed his concern about the expansion of Israeli's settlements. However, he did not accept to use the term "apartheid" to describe Israel. “I don’t think that it correctly describes the situation,” he said. Even if the chancellor is willing to foster peace in the Middle East, he does not think that a Palestinian full membership at the UN is the right solution for the moment.  “Palestine has an observer status in the UN, I don’t think that it’s the right time now to change this,” he said.
