Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid spoke by phone Monday with Egyptian leader Abdel Fattah al-Sissi, thanking him for his country's role in negotiating a ceasefire between Israel and the Islamic Jihad. The ceasefire went into effect Sunday night after three days if fighting around the Gaza Strip.
Prime Minister Lapid emphasized that Egypt plays a very significant role in preserving regional stability and security.
The two spoke about the importance of strengthening and developing normalization between Israel and the countries of the region, and the importance of dialogue for regional stability.
The Egyptian president also stressed the importance of relaunching the peace process. He noted that this would end the cycle of violence and repeated escalations, and may lead to the door being opened to a long-term agreement.
