Following the announcement of the International Court of Justice in The Hague of provisional measures in the case of South Africa against Israel on the application of the Genocide Convention in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Ambassador Riyad Mansour said it was “a historic day”.

He said that the State of Palestine is in close collaboration and consultations with South Africa.

The Palestinian Ambassador added that during the meeting that was held in Kampala at the level of foreign ministers, the Palestinian side agreed to the instructions proposed by South Africa for both sides to continue coordinating in New York concerning what needs to be done once the ICJ adopts the provisional measures.

Mansour said that he expected the issue to be discussed in the Security Council. “We are digging into all the details in order to take the appropriate steps at the UNSC," adding that we will begin further active actions with members of the Council on Monday.

However, he maintained that a ceasefire is needed to enable the implementation of the court’s provisional measures.
