Created in 2017 by Mohamed Zalloum, Go Hiking Pal aims at fostering knowledge about Palestinian history and landscapes through hiking. Open to all citizens, Palestinian or not, young and older people, Go Hiking Pal gathers every Friday in Ramallah, before starting a huge day of hiking and discovering Palestinian beautiful nature.
Through sport and especially hiking, Zalloum wishes to preserve the nature and environment of Palestine and get people to know their own country’s resources.
He managed to do this via a simple Facebook group that thousands of people follow and of course, a lot of encouragement, energy, and determination.
Most important: Go Hiking Pal has been created in order to get people to know each other and to share cultures, knowledge, and experiences.
This association is not only about walking: joy and a good mood are of course part of it, including a huge homemade lunch in astonishing landscapes.
For Zalloum. Go Hiking Pal is also a way to counter Israeli occupation and remind that these landscapes he visits are also part of Palestine: “Here, we have the Israeli conflict and the Israeli occupation, this occupation that is trying to steal our land. When we are on our land on the field, we prove our attendance to this land.
The destination changes every Friday, from hiking in Wadi el Ghizlan to Hajla, and allows participants to have a better understanding of Palestinian history and culture.
