JENIN / PNN /
Israeli bulldozers on Monday demolished homes and commercial properties in the vicinity of Jenin Governmental Hospital, as part of the ongoing military assault on the city and its refugee camp.
Local sources reported that the demolitions took place near Al-Hissan roundabout in Jenin Camp and behind the hospital, targeting shops and parts of civilians’ homes.
Earlier in the day, Israeli forces fired live ammunition extensively at homes in the Al-Hissan area and other parts of the camp.
Since 21 January, the Israeli military has launched a large-scale offensive on Jenin and its refugee camp, displacing nearly 22,000 residents. The assault has left 40 Palestinians dead and more than 200 wounded.
Estimates indicate that Israeli bulldozers have completely demolished more than 600 homes and carved out roughly 15 roads inside the camp. Nearly all homes and civilian properties have sustained partial damage, rendering the camp largely uninhabitable.
On 9 June, Israeli authorities issued demolition orders for around 95 additional homes in the camp, adding to those destroyed since the start of the assault 161 days ago. Since then, demolitions have occurred almost daily in areas including Al-Samran, Al-Damj, Sharet Al-Sikka, and Abdullah Azzam neighbourhoods.
In a separate development last Thursday, Israeli forces also issued orders to confiscate land in the towns of Ya’bad and the village of Raba, south of Jenin, for military purposes.
According to the Raba village council, the military plans to build a new road starting from the village of Al-Mutilla in southeast Jenin, passing through Raba’s lands, and ending at Jabal Al-Masalmeh, where a new military outpost is reportedly planned.
Since the onset of the assault, Israeli forces have intensified incursions into towns and villages across Jenin Governorate. These operations include house raids, detentions, field interrogations, and converting civilian homes into military outposts for days at a time.
