The State of Palestine on Tuesday night welcomed the adoption of the U.S. draft resolution on Gaza by the UN Security Council, which affirms the establishment of a permanent and comprehensive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensures the unobstructed entry and delivery of humanitarian aid, and upholds the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
The State of Palestine stressed the need for the immediate implementation of the resolution on the ground, in a manner that guarantees the return of normal life, protects the Palestinian people in Gaza, prevents displacement, ensures the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, enables reconstruction, halts the undermining of the two-state solution, and prevents annexation.
It affirmed its full readiness to cooperate with the U.S. administration, members of the Security Council, Arab and Islamic states, the European Union and its member states, the United Nations, all parties to the international coalition, and partners in the New York Declaration to implement this resolution in a way that ends the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, and leads to a political path that achieves peace, security, and stability between Palestinians and Israelis in accordance with the two-state solution based on international law and international legitimacy.
The State of Palestine reiterated its readiness to assume full responsibilities in the Gaza Strip within the framework of the unity of land, people, and institutions, affirming that Gaza is an integral part of the State of Palestine.
It also expressed gratitude to all countries that have shown willingness to work with the State of Palestine and relevant parties to support Palestinian efforts toward ending the occupation and achieving freedom and independence, in pursuit of a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian question that brings peace, stability, and security to the region and the world.
For its part, Hamas criticized the Security Council resolution on Gaza, stressing its adherence to national principles.
Hamas condemned the Council’s approval of the U.S. proposal on Gaza, saying that “the resolution imposes an international trusteeship mechanism on the Gaza Strip — something our movement, its forces, and the factions strongly reject.”
The movement added that resisting the occupation by all means is a legitimate right guaranteed by international laws and conventions, stating: “The weapons of the resistance are tied to the existence of the occupation, and any discussion on this matter must remain internal, national, and aligned with a political path that guarantees an end to the occupation, the establishment of the state, and the realization of self-determination.”
