The UN Special Rapporteur on the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Francesca Albanese, stated that “evidence shows Palestinian prisoners from Gaza have been tortured since February 2024.”

In a press statement on Monday, the rapporteur emphasized that Israel remains beyond accountability for these crimes.

The Guardian published an exclusive report revealing that Israel has detained dozens of Palestinians from Gaza in an underground prison called “Rakifet,” where prisoners are deprived of sunlight, adequate food, and any contact with their families or the outside world.

The report is based on testimonies from lawyers of Israel’s Public Committee Against Torture (PCATI), who visited the prison and spoke with two civilian detainees.

It confirms that many of the prisoners are entirely civilians, and Israeli courts extend their detention through brief video hearings without the presence of lawyers, justifying it with a single phrase: “until the end of the war.”
