Three unidentified drones were detected on Sunday flying once again over critical infrastructure in Belgium — this time above a nuclear power plant near the city of Antwerp in the north of the country.

According to the Belgian news agency Belga, the company operating the plant, Engie, said that the drones had no impact on the operation of the Doel nuclear power plant, which is one of the country’s largest sources of electricity.

Earlier, several unidentified drones were also detected at Liège Airport, leading to the suspension of air traffic for about an hour.

In recent weeks, drones have been spotted multiple times across Belgium, including over the Belgian military base in Kleine-Brogel, Flanders, which is also used by NATO and is believed — according to unconfirmed reports — to be one of the European sites where U.S. nuclear weapons are stored.

At that time, Belgian police launched an investigation but did not identify the operators of the drones or file any charges.

Germany’s Ministry of Defense announced last week that the German armed forces would support Belgium in defending against drone threats, following an official request from the Belgian government.

Belgium and several other European countries have recently seen a rise in drone-related incidents, which are believed to be linked to Russia — a claim that Moscow has denied.
