The President of the Republic of Slovenia, Nataša Pirc Musar, said that her country remains steadfast in its position supporting the establishment of a Palestinian state and the two-state solution.

She added that if the international community allows Israel to continue its settlement expansion, it would mark the end of the Palestinian state — “and we will not allow that.”

In an interview, President Pirc Musar explained that the European Union’s stance on the Gaza war is not as unified as it was on the issue of Ukraine.

She stated that “some European countries are still supplying weapons to Israel and hosting its leaders accused of war crimes,” describing this as “a double standard policy that undermines Europe’s credibility.”

The Slovenian president affirmed that her country “believes in human rights and stands on the side of humanity,” noting, “I was the first EU president to describe what is happening in Gaza as genocide.”

In July, Slovenia imposed a ban on the export, import, and transit of weapons to and from Israel, two weeks after declaring two Israeli ministers persona non grata.

The ban covers all weapons and military equipment sent from Slovenia to Israel, imported from Israel, or transported through Slovenian territory.

Pirc Musar added that what is happening in Palestine is “unjust,” and that Israel’s actions in Gaza are “disproportionate.”

She stressed the need for an international peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip under UN supervision to halt the destruction and protect civilians.

The Slovenian president said that Israel continues to obstruct the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza under false pretenses, noting that the United Nations has documented Israel’s rejection of more than one hundred aid requests in recent weeks.

“The people are starving,” she said. “There is no justification for denying food and medicine to civilians.”

Pirc Musar added that the killing and mass destruction taking place in Gaza are unacceptable in the 21st century, emphasizing that civilians are always the main victims in conflicts, and that “violence only breeds more violence.”

“What Hamas did was horrific,” she said, “but Israel’s response has been excessive and disproportionate.”

“If we impose sanctions on Russia for violating international law, then why do we hesitate to impose them on Israel?” she asked.

Pirc Musar emphasized that Hamas should have no role in shaping the new era of Palestine, but warned that ignoring the suffering of Palestinians would lead to “a new cycle of anger and violence.”

She called for addressing the roots of the conflict through fair humanitarian and political solutions.
