Cairo – PNN /
In a prominent diplomatic move, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el‑Sisi announced that Egypt intends to host an international conference focusing on “early recovery and reconstruction” for the Gaza Strip by the end of November.
The announcement came on Wednesday amid Egypt’s intensified efforts to consolidate the cease‑fire and secure the flow of humanitarian aid into the Strip, which is facing huge challenges.
Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El Shenawy said the declaration was made during President Sisi’s meeting with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov at the Ittihadiya Palace on Wednesday morning.
During the meeting, President Sisi reviewed the latest regional developments, highlighting Egypt’s efforts to consolidate the cease‑fire in Gaza and to bring in humanitarian aid.
The announcement of the international conference represents a qualitative shift in Egypt’s efforts—from stabilising calm to entering a practical planning phase for recovery and reconstruction.
The Egyptian initiative comes at a critical time, as Gaza faces immense humanitarian and economic challenges. Aid access remains a pressing priority, which President Sisi underscored as part of the current efforts.
It is expected that the conference will aim to mobilise international support, as the cost of reconstruction is very high and requires global cooperation. Ahram Online Historically, reconstruction efforts for Gaza have relied on multiple stakeholders, including the United Nations (through agencies like UNDP and UNRWA), European countries, the United States, and Gulf nations such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Egypt plays a central role not only politically but also logistically, overseeing the Rafah Crossing, which is the vital entry point for construction materials and international delegations. The upcoming conference faces the challenge of ensuring effective delivery of building materials and aid so as to guarantee early recovery for the affected population.
