The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced that about 75,000 displaced persons in the Gaza Strip are seeking refuge in over 100 of its buildings, despite most of those facilities being damaged by Israeli bombing and overcrowded.
In a post on the social‐media platform X, the agency stated that humanitarian conditions in those shelters have become extremely harsh, marked by severe shortages of water, food and essential supplies, and warned of a deteriorating health situation and spread of disease due to overcrowding and poor sanitation.
UNRWA affirmed that its teams continue to work, despite very limited capacity, to deliver urgent aid to the displaced, and urged the international community to act immediately to ensure civilian protection and improve the worsening humanitarian conditions in the sector.
The agency also noted that 90% of Gaza’s population is suffering from malnutrition.
