U.S. President Donald Trump described the cease-fire agreement in Gaza as “very robust” and not fragile.
In a televised interview with CBS News aired early Monday, Trump said that he would force Hamas to accelerate the disarmament of its weapons if it so wished.
He added that Hamas could be eliminated immediately if it failed to behave properly, in his words.
He continued by saying that he had worked with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a highly harmonious manner and had pressured him when he saw things that displeased him.
The U.S. President described Netanyahu as the person Israel needed during the war, repeating that the Israeli Prime Minister was suffering “great injustice” within Israel, and he spoke of intervening somewhat to assist him.
Washington and Tel Aviv believe that implementing the cease-fire agreement should lead to Hamas’s disarmament, while the movement maintains that the disarmament of the resistance and administration of the Gaza Strip will only be discussed within the framework of the Palestinian national context.
The agreement entered into force on 10 October, and has been violated by Israel dozens of times.
