Jerusalem / PNN /
Israeli forces on Monday raided the area around a boys’ middle school in Silwan as parents and students staged a protest against what they described as Israel’s repressive education policies.
Local sources said troops entered the vicinity of Silwan Preparatory School for Boys while residents and students were demonstrating against attempts to relocate the school and impose Israel’s curriculum. Protesters were given only a few minutes to disperse.
The Central Parents’ Committee in Silwan and Ras al-Amud had announced a full, open-ended strike in all schools in the town starting Monday, rejecting what they called unjust and arbitrary measures imposed by the Israeli municipality against local schools and students.
In a statement, the committee said the measures directly undermine students’ right to education and threaten their academic future, vowing not to back down from protest actions until the decisions are revoked and demands met.
It urged all parents to fully commit to the strike and keep their children at home, stressing that the step aims to defend the sacred right to education.
The committee added that these repressive policies are part of Israel’s ongoing attempts to impose control over the education sector in occupied Jerusalem, affirming that residents of Silwan and Ras al-Amud will continue their legitimate struggle to safeguard justice and protect their children’s future.
