U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said that President Donald Trump wants to bring the conflict in Gaza to an immediate end.

In an interview with the American channel Fox News, Witkoff stressed the need to secure the return of Israeli hostages, release Palestinian prisoners, and rebuild Gaza.

Earlier on Tuesday, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed Al-Ansari said that the latest ceasefire proposal in Gaza, which was accepted by Hamas, is “almost identical” to a previous plan put forward by Witkoff and approved by Israel.

Al-Ansari explained in a press conference in Doha that the proposal agreed to by Hamas includes a pathway to a permanent ceasefire, describing it as “the best possible option at this stage” to preserve civilian lives in Gaza.

He noted that mediators are waiting for a response from Israel, adding: “There is no set timeframe for a reply, but we have heard that Israel is considering the matter, and we hope for a swift and positive response.”

Al-Ansari also stated that Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani is in contact with Witkoff, and that there is a “positive atmosphere” regarding the negotiations.
