At least 35 Palestinians, including five children, were killed on Tuesday in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, amid what Palestinians describe as a 22-month-long campaign of genocide.

According to medical sources and eyewitnesses, the attacks targeted displaced people’s tents, civilians, and aid distribution points.

In the latest assault, four Palestinians were killed and others wounded when Israeli forces bombed two homes in Gaza City’s al-Zaytoun neighbourhood in the southeast.

Earlier in the day, 31 others were killed in separate Israeli attacks across the enclave.

In Gaza City, five Palestinians were killed during a limited ground operation, which was accompanied by air and artillery strikes around al-Sabra school in the south of the city.

The attacks came amid heavy demolitions and bombardments carried out by Israeli forces in al-Sabra and al-Zaytoun, part of a wider military operation launched in al-Zaytoun on 11 August.

On 8 August, the Israeli government approved a plan put forward by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to gradually reoccupy the entire Gaza Strip, starting with Gaza City.

As part of that plan, the Israeli army began a large-scale offensive on al-Zaytoun on 11 August, demolishing homes with booby-trapped robots, carrying out artillery shelling and random gunfire, and forcibly displacing residents, according to eyewitnesses cited by Anadolu.

In central Gaza, five Palestinians, including a woman, were killed in an Israeli strike on al-Baraka Street in Deir al-Balah.

Another five people, including three children and a woman, were killed when Israeli forces struck a family tent in al-Bassa.

Near the Netzarim corridor, two Palestinians were killed and others wounded when Israeli forces opened fire on civilians waiting for aid near a joint US-Israeli distribution centre.

In southern Gaza, four Palestinians, including a mother and her two children, were killed in an Israeli strike on a displaced family’s tent in al-Mawasi, west of Khan Younis.

Two others were killed and 10 injured in a separate strike near the Applied Sciences College in al-Mawasi, while another man was shot dead in the Beer 19 area of al-Mawasi.

Israeli forces also carried out demolitions of homes and facilities in central Khan Younis and launched heavy artillery fire across parts of the city.

In Rafah, seven Palestinians were killed, including six in a strike on a displaced persons’ tent near Muawiya mosque in al-Mawasi, while another man was shot dead near an aid distribution centre in the northwest.

With US backing, Israel has waged a devastating war on Gaza since 7 October 2023, marked by killings, starvation, destruction and forced displacement, in defiance of international calls and International Court of Justice rulings ordering it to halt the campaign.

The assault has left 62,064 Palestinians dead and 156,573 wounded, the majority women and children. More than 9,000 remain missing, while hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Famine conditions have killed 266 people, including 112 children.
