WASHINGTON / PNN /
Hundreds of Google employees and pro-Palestine activists and supporters of the Palestinian rights participated in a demonstration in San Francisco, California, in solidarity with the Palestinian people and in protest against holding of the annual Google Cloud Next conference.
The participants in the demonstration, which was organized today by a broad coalition of several organizations supporting the Palestinian right, carried Palestinian flags and banners calling for ending the company's contract with the Israeli government and army.
A number of demonstrators chained themselves outside the conference in downtown San Francisco, as a gesture of peaceful civil disobedience.
A statement issued by the organizers of the demonstration said that, “Google’s technology is not used to inspire and innovate. On the contrary, it fuels the Israeli security services, enables and reinforces apartheid, state violence, occupation, and land seizure, through a very lucrative contract worth Billion dollars with the Israeli government and army."
"I am very worried that Google has no scruples if they’re going to work with the Israeli government," said Joshua Marxen, a Google Cloud software engineer who also helped with organizing the protest. "Google has given us no reason to trust them."
