The general conference of the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate (Conference of Martyr Sherine Abu Akla) successfully concluded this afternoon.

The Journalists' Syndicate Bloc, which is a coalition of press blocs representing all factions of the Palestinian National Action Organizations within the Palestine Liberation Organization, won by acclamation. There was initially one unified list, but it withdrew before the conference.

The General Assembly of the Journalists' Syndicate voted, following the approval of the financial and administrative reports, to adopt a law allowing the establishment of branches of the syndicate abroad.

In addition, a unanimous decision was made to continue monitoring Israeli violations against journalists, particularly the case of Martyr Sherine Abu Akla, in international forums.

The General Assembly of the conference also voted by majority against the proposal to appoint three deputies for the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate president.

Furthermore, the syndicate decided to establish an advisory council for the syndicate during its conference.

The General Secretariat of the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate had tendered its resignation to the General Assembly of the conference after presenting the financial and administrative reports of the syndicate in previous years.

The administrative report included the execution of 220 training courses and workshops, 1,100 visits by journalists and media outlets, and the signing of 118 agreements and memoranda of understanding accomplished by the syndicate during its tenure.

Journalists described the conference of the Journalists' Syndicate as a grand democratic event full of brightness. The conference opened its proceedings this morning with the participation of Palestinian Prime Minister Dr. Mohammed Ishtayeh, representing President Mahmoud Abbas, and the presence and participation of members from the Executive and Central Committees of the organization, as well as representatives from Fatah factions and various international and Arab journalistic delegations, notably the International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Union of Journalists, the African Union of Journalists, as well as delegations from the United States, Britain, France, and several other countries and media and human rights organizations.
