Amman / PNN – AmmanNet in Jordan informed PNN this morning that high-level sources in the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) gave details of a major change.
UNRWA Commissioner General Karen Abu Zayd will be replaced by Deputy Commissioner-General Filippo Grandi next week.
The sources emphasized that the decision has been made, leaving only the Declaration of the Advisory Committee of the UNRWA.
As the new Commissioner-General, the Italian is expected to be granted US citizenship in accordance with long-standing tradition.
Sources in UNRWA indicated that Grandi had threatened to resign unless he took over as Commissioner General, and that major problems would surface in the absence of both the Commissioner General and Deputy.
