Gaza / PNN – The leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine hosted a cultural evening in Gaza yesterday to mark the armed dimension of the struggle against occupation.
It was on the seventeenth of October 2001 that right-wing Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Zeevi was killed in retaliation for the assassination of Abu Ali Mustafa in August of that year. Abu Ali Mustafa was Secretary General and one of the founders of the PFLP. Its armed resistance wing is named for him. A member of the Popular Front in Gaza, Sami Khalifa explained last night, “We mark this occasion to remember the blood of our martyred leaders.” He said that 17 October represents a “quantum leap in fighting the occupier.” It is for his alleged role in organizing the killing of Zeevi that current PFLP Secretary General Ahmed Sa'adat is in Israeli prison. |
