PNN / Gaza – With there being “no place safe in Gaza,” as reported numerous times by residents and the United Nations, there are now 25,000 Palestinians seeking refuge in its schools.
A spokesperson for the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees said Sunday that Gazans are arriving as their homes are destroyed in the Israeli attacks.
The UNRWA spokesperson in Gaza, Adnan Abu Hasna, said Sunday, “Twenty-five thousand Palestinians were in the UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip taking refuge from the Israeli shelling. Every hour we are preparing for new arrivals.” Abu Hasna added that the amount of supplies that the UN agency is able to get through the crossings is not nearly enough as they try to “provide blankets, canned food and drinking water.” Hundreds of more people arrived this morning after the Israeli attack on Sheikh Ajlin in Tel Hawa, southwest Gaza City that killed 14 Palestinians. The Israeli forces have targeted UNRWA schools in the past, but after they shot and killed a UNRWA truck driver and stopped services in protest, the Israeli administration said it would stop targeting the United Nations. |
