Israeli settlement expansion in occupied Syrian Golan Heights Print E-mail
03.11.08 - 00:06

ImageNablus / PNN – The Israeli administration is continuing the policy of settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. With Ehud Olmert the expansion reached its peak after nonstop activity under successive Israeli governments.

The term “development” is again be used to skirt reality away from the colonizing of land occupied since 1967. The Israeli administration is currently in direct talks with Turkey who is acting as mediator, and is debating its status with Syria.

Settlement expansion is not helping matters.

Six Israeli settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights are being expanded with development of infrastructure at the forefront to accommodate more settlers.

Building for Elad Settlement is taking place on the ruins of Syrian villages for housing units designed for Jewish youth, while Sefan Settlement is expanding its infrastructure projects atop Ein Al Zewan Village. Another settlement is building a sports stadium on the lands of a southern Golan village. Others are building roads and installing new electrical systems.

The Friends of the Golan Committee asks how the Israeli administration can behave with such blatant regard to international law on Syrian lands it occupies while still expecting Syria to engage in dialogue.
