Nablus / Amin Abu Wardeh - A paper prepared by lawyers Imad Salah al-Din and Ahmed Sameer al- Tubasi from the International Solidarity Foundation for Human Rights documents the killing of 801 Palestinians by Israelis between June 2007 and June 2008.
The paper also reports targeted assassinations against journalists and violations against Palestinian shrines, charities and cooperatives.
Of the 801 Palestinians killed by Israelis, 107 were children and 33 were women. The document also states that 5,437 Palestinians were arrested within the year, many of them now held in administrative detention centers. More than 11,000 Palestinians are currently being held in Israeli jails. Israeli attacks against journalists included: detention, killing, injury, storming of press institutions, and closure of local news stations. The International Solidarity Foundation found that Israelis assaulted 58 journalists in one year. All of these actions violated international law and the Geneva Conventions. International law also calls for the need to protect the sanctity of holy places and to preserve the culture and heritage of all countries. Regardless of this law, Israel has continued to excavate sacred Palestinian areas including the Al Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem. Israeli forces attacked more than 88 Palestinian sanctities within the year. Various Palestinian charities and NGOs supply health services and support social and cultural rights in the region. More than 58 attacks on these institutions occurred in the time period, including confiscation and tampering of materials, and enforced closure. The International Solidarity Foundation for Human Rights also documented more than 608 Israeli barriers and impediments in the West Bank, resulting in devastating consequences for the lives of Palestinians. After reviewing all Israeli violations committed between June 2007 and June 2008, the International Solidarity Foundation for Human Rights reports: –A need for international pressure on Israel to abide by its duties as an occupying power in accordance with international law. –Israel's 'security' justifications for committing various crimes against Palestinians are not justifiable. –The end of the occupation of Palestine could well result in security, peace and stability for all. –The necessity of the prosecution of each Israeli responsible for crimes against Palestinians in the interests of legal, ethical and humanitarian justice. |
