ImageInstitutions concerned with the affairs of Palestinian refugees are organizing a series of demonstrations in protest of cuts in international relief. Chairperson of the People's Services Committee in Aida Refugee Camp, Adnan Jarme, said that all West Bank refugee camps have approved the series of protests.

The current cuts are specifically targeting the area of education, Jarme said during a demonstration near the Wall that now runs along the northern side of the northern Bethlehem refugee camp.

One hundred and twenty teachers were just fired from various parts of the West Bank. There were not enough books or classrooms for students which led to increasing the number of students per teacher.

Jarme said that during the Aida demonstration protesters held banners condemning what is being deemed a “political conspiracy against the Palestinian people in preparation for the liquidation of the UNWRA as the sole witness to the plight of the Palestinians.”

Jarme said that the People's Committee sent an urgent appeal to the Director of the UNRWA in the West Bank to convene a meeting with all committee heads in the camps to discuss the situation. He said that in the case that there is no response to the request, the demonstrations will escalate.
