The Palestinian Authority Government Media Centre has welcomed a report issued by nine independent and important legal and human rights figures, which addresses inhumane practices against Palestinian children in Israeli prisons. Among them is the retired Hon. Lord Justice Sedley.

The centre called on the British government, which funded the report, and called on the world to convert the report's recommendations into actions and force Israel to cease these practices, which violate international law.

Dr. Ghassan Al-Khatib, director of the Palestinian Government Media Centre said that the report "is important because it exposes the dangerous violations that Israel practices on Palestinian children in Israeli jails," he continued, "there is an immediate need to intervene and stop Israel's brutal procedures and practices and it is most important to prevent Israeli authorities from arresting children in the middle of the night, handcuffing and blindfolding them and torturing them physically and psychologically."

Al-Khatib called for more important investigations that reveal the suffering caused by Israeli forced due to its illegal occupation of the Palestinian territories.

"We support and welcome more of these independent investigations that address other kinds of violations such as; home demolitions, deportation of Palestinians, settler attacks and settlement expansion." Said al-Khatib

The report also contends that Israeli soldiers treat every Palestinian child as if "he has the background to be a terrorist" and expressed the British government's concern about the treatment the Palestinian kids suffer during their arrests.

Al-Khatib said, "we hope that the British government and all the countries of the international society will translate this concern into practical procedures that may end the children's suffering and put an end to the Israeli violations against our people."
