On Monday, February 20th, members of the Palestinian National Initiative held a solidarity march for prisoner Khader Adnan who is now in his 66th day of hunger strike. They gathered in front of the Red Cross headquarters in Bethlehem, walked to the Cinema area of the city before heading to Bethlehem University.
Abu Mazen al-Azeh, coordinator of the Palestinian National Initiative, said that the popular resistance must stand in support of prisoners in Israeli prisons, and in particular with Khader Adnan and what he is going through.
He also confirmed that administrative detention is a violation of international law and the third Geneva Convention, especially the third article. He said that Khader Adnan is on the longest hunger strike recorded in Palestine. "He strikes for our pride and his own, and our rights, his colleagues' rights and his own rights against administrative detention, the injustice and brutal processes towards Palestinians inside the Israeli prisons. Khader Adnan represents all the Palestinians, and represents their free will."
Mohammad Basheer, coordinator of the students' office of the Palestinian National Initiative in Bethlehem governorate, called for more activities in the West Bank to remind the international community of the importance of immediate intervention to release Adnan and to save his life.
He called on other prisoners, the presidency and the Palestinian Authorities as well as other Palestinian sectors and parties to stand against Adnan's detention and organize solidarity activities around Palestine to continue with the message that is being sent out to Israel: that Khader Adnan is painting a new phase of the Palestinian resistance. He won't be alone; the Palestinians are supporting every prisoner's case.
The participants who held Palestinian flags and portraits of Adnan, chanted about the Israeli policies against prisoners, holding Israel to account for Adnan's life.
