New Chilean Medical Missions in Palestine

Thanks to the support of the Palestinian Foundation Bethlehem 2000 – Chile, Chilean doctors arrived to Al Hussein Hospital in Beit Jala, to operate children. In addition the medical team will train local staff in the care of cancer patients, and support the formation of the first pediatric oncology center in Palestine.
On Saturday April 7th the fourth Chilean voluntary medical team arrived to Palestine; their mission is to provide help to the Palestinian children's at Al Hussein Hospital in Beit Jala. The children will undergo oncolocgical & urological surgeries.
The entire oncology team from Luis Calvo Mackenna Hospital, led by Dr. Francisco Ossandón, (Head of pediatric surgery department) come-apart with the mission to train the hospital staff, cancer patients and families of children that suffer these problems; they will also support the formation of the first pediatric oncology center in Palestine.
Dr. Ossandón point out that the multidisciplinary team will focus on transfer its experiences to the formation of the care center.
"Our work will focus, in addition to operate the children, to exchange our knowledge in oncology, as Calvo Mackenna Hospital, so that the Palestinian doctors can implement what we have been doing for a while.
This is the second voluntary trip to Palestine for Dr. Ossandón, as he point out that the transfer of information "is an extraordinary & enriched experience"
"We know the reality of life in Palestine and the great interest of Chilean doctors to come and work in a voluntary way because we know we can help and alleviate the suffering of children and their families, said Dr. Ossandón
The medical operations are carried out under an agreement signed between the Palestine Children's Relief Organization Fund (PCRF) and the Chilean Society of Pediatric surgery, with the support of the Palestinian Foundation Bethlehem 2000 – Chile
The medical cooperation between Chile and Palestine is growing, in this year more medical missions will travel to Palestine; meanwhile one mission is working in Al Hussein Hospital in Beit Jala, another mission of Chilean specialist will work in Nablus Hospital between 21 y 26 April, they will help children with urological diseases, in addition to the children who were on the waiting list since November 2011.
Meanwhile in May, Chilean specialist will work in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon.
