Few hours ago, Euro 2012 started in Poland and Ukraine that will be between 8 June and 1 July 2012. In this grand sport event nations worldwide gather each four years to enjoy the fever of the soccer game and to watch their legend heroes and stars playing the magic of their balls. The opening ceremony was the shortest in records but had very impressive and touching message about anti-discrimination and respect of humans. It was a stunning ceremony and full of life and freedom of nations.
Few months ago, Mahmoud Sarsak 22 started his hunger strike in Israeli Jails, this young Palestinian has been on hunger strike since 85 days recording the longest hunger strike in humanity and history, it is worth noting that Mahmoud is a soccer player with the Palestinian National Team, and the Israeli forces arrested him in 2009 when he arrived at the Erez border crossing on the way from his city of Gaza to the West Bank. He has since been held in administrative detention.
In this day where people are celebrating the launching of this huge sport champion, we the Palestinians would like to remind the Europeans players in Euro 2012 and the audience in the stadiums who are chanting loudly and happily for their heroes to win their games, that Palestinians are also chanting loudly for this Palestinian hero Mahmoud Sarsak who is on hunger strike to win his battle against injustice and inhumanity.
The occupation will not steal the spirit and steadfastness of this young Palestinian sport member.
And his voice will fly over the sky of Euro and the whole world to record a legend of his honored humanity.
