An Aid convoy organised by Viva Palestina Arabia and headed by Bradford MP George Galloway, left Bradford, England last week to carry medical supplies and equipment to Gaza.

It was reported in British press that the convoy, which set off from Bradford on Sunday, made it´s way through France yesterday and will be heading towards Germany and then Turkey to collect supplies before finally reaching Gaza.

Journalist and campaigner Kevin Ovenden will join the convoy in Turkey said “We hope it’s going to be in Turkey by Thursday and it’s picking up extra support, extra aid and vehicles en-route.”

The convoy is due to reach the Gaza strip on Tuesday 15th May to commemorate Nakba day, the anniversary of the displacement of Palestinian people from their homes in 1948

On their website, Viva Palestina interviewed survivors from the Marvi Maramara, an unarmed aid flotilla sent to Gaza with provisions and medical aid, in which Israeli forces killed 9 people and left another brain dead.

Sarah Colbourne, Director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign and who was also onboard the Marvi Marmara when the Israeli Defence Force attacked the boat said:

“However hard the Israeli Government attempts to rewrite history, they can’t rewrite the truth. The facts are simple, the Marvi Marmara was carrying essential humanitarian aid like baby milk to the besieged people of Gaza. There were no guns or weapons on board the boat, we were in international waters, when over 300 bullets – or one for every two people on board - rained down on us, killing 9 people and injuring over 50.

The actions of the Israeli Defence Force and the Israeli Government where by all international standards of law illegal as is their continued occupation of Gaza and the oppression of the Palestinian people.”
