On July 18th, the Minister of Prisoner's Affairs, Issa Qaraqe, stated that Israel arrests 700 children annually, and that these children are subjected to all kinds of torture, and are forced to confess under torture.
In a follow up statement on Thursday, 19th July, Qaraqe, said that the Palestinian movement has succeeded in presenting Israeli violations committed against Palestinian children, from the ages of 12 to 18, to international institutions around the world.
Israel has, in theory, declared its commitment to raise the age of detained children from the age of 16 to 18, yet that still has not happened.
Qaraqe also said that Israeli special units recently stormed three sections in Majedou prison, and that the prisoners there were brutally assaulted.
Qaraqe strongly condemned the attack saying that it was part of an ongoing Israeli policy of entering into prisons and assaulting prisoners in Israeli jails.
