Number of Corona cases among prisoners in Rimon increased to 8

The number of “Coronavirus cases among prisoners in Section 4 of Rimon Prison increased to (8) since the announcement of the infection of a prisoner in the aforementioned section last Monday.

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Thursday, that the number of cases is likely to increase, especially since the results of the tests announced today are out of (21) samples, while the rest of the results did not appear for the prisoners in the section, in which (90) prisoners are located.

PPS confirmed that a state of tension and extreme anxiety prevails among the prisoners in the prison, especially with the prison administration’s continued delay in announcing the results of the samples, which mainly contribute to the spread of the epidemic, and it also constitutes a tool of abuse because of the state of anxiety and fear it causes in The captives.

The society appealed to all the competent authorities to take serious action in order to save their lives before it is too late, especially the sick and elderly, as (43) prisoners inside the department suffer from various diseases, and at least four prisoners are over (60) years old. The Prisoner Club held the occupation full responsibility for the lives of the prisoners, considering that what is happening in Rimon is a dangerous and escalating warning, especially after the transfer of the prisoner Basil Ajaj to the hospital due to his infection with the virus.

The society called on all the competent authorities to assume their responsibility in light of the escalating risks to the lives of the prisoners, and the continuation of the occupation in implementing its policies that target the lives of the prisoners and their fate, through a set of tools, in addition to its continued detention of more citizens, the latest of which was a campaign of arrests carried out by the occupation forces at the dawn of this. Today, which affected nearly 30 citizens of the West Bank.

It stressed the need to pressure the occupation to give the prisoners the vaccine under the supervision of a neutral international committee, especially in light of the campaign of incitement against the prisoners, and the occupation’s decision to deprive the prisoners of the vaccine.

It is noteworthy that the number of cases since the beginning of the epidemic spread among the prisoners, with the cases that were recorded today, and reached (199) cases, the highest of which was in “Gilboa” prison in November 2020.
