The advisor to the Minister of Health, Fathi Abu Warda, warned on Monday, of the seriousness of the epidemic situation in the Gaza Strip in light of the high infection curve of Coronavirus.

In an interview with the official agency, Abu Warda confirmed that the infection rate is on the rise, especially as we are heading towards the winter season, when the proportion of seasonal diseases, “influenza,” increases.

He said: “The European Gaza Hospital, in the south of the Gaza Strip, dedicated to treating people with the Coronavirus, has a capacity of 340 beds, of which 300 beds are filled, including 14 critical cases, 26 serious and 45 moderate cases, and the rest of the cases suffer from chronic diseases such as: pressure, diabetes, heart and others “.

He added, “We have opened new departments in all hospitals, such as: Al-Shifa in Gaza City, Nasser in Khan Yunis in the south, and Al-Indonesia in the north, which are dedicated to upper-middle cases, in addition to allocating the Turkish Friendship Hospital for medium cases.”

It is noteworthy that since the spread of the “Corona” pandemic in the Gaza Strip, the number of deaths has reached 48, and the number of active cases has reached 3414.

With regard to medical staff, Abu Warda announced that many health sector workers had been infected with the Corona virus, including six doctors, as a result of their work and direct contact with visitors to clinics and hospitals.

He stressed that the health situation so far is under control, and the medical staff are carrying out their duties to the fullest, but if the situation remains as it is, the situation will be dangerous in the coming days.

He pointed out that the Minister of Health, Mai Al-Kailah, monitors the health situation in Gaza on a daily basis, to find out the epidemiological situation and to provide medical assistance to relieve our people in the besieged strip.

The advisor to the Minister of Health advised citizens in the Gaza Strip not to be reckless and to take the utmost precautions because the situation has become dangerous and is constantly escalating, and he asked them to wear the “mask” and social distancing.

He attributed the rise of the epidemic curve in the Gaza Strip to several reasons, including: the disdain of many citizens and their lack of belief in the existence of the “Corona” virus, and gatherings at weddings and mourning homes.
