Palestinians demand international probe after death of teen beaten by Israeli forces

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has called for an international investigation into the death of a teenager who died of injuries after being beaten by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.

“This crime reflects the extent of brutality and fascism that forms the political, security and military mentality of tIsrael, and permits the massacre of Palestinians and takeover of their land and property in blatant disregard for all international treaties and agreements, including the basic principles of human rights,” the ministry said in a statement released on Sunday.

The foreign ministry also called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities in the face of crimes being committed by Israeli officials against the Palestinian nation, and “to expedite the opening of an official investigation into those offenses, and prosecution of Israeli war criminals.”

This crime confirms the urgent need to provide international protection for our Palestinian people against the occupying regime’s terror and its official approach to targeted killings. It will not be the regime’s last criminal act in the absence of international mechanisms that hold it to account,” the ministry stated.

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has also denounced the murder.

“The vicious murder of 18-year-old Amer Abdel-Rahim Snobar at the hands of Israeli occupation forces is a monstrous act of brutality against a defenseless young man whose only crime was being Palestinian. Israeli soldiers bludgeoned Amer this dawn, and medical authorities have confirmed that he had been repeatedly beaten on the back of his neck and left to die,” said Hanan Ashrawi, a PLO Executive Committee member.

“Such crimes are being perpetrated and perpetuated by Israeli soldiers because they are part of a regime that awards criminality and enjoys impunity for crimes, domestically and internationally. The daily violence against Palestinians – the lifeline of this illegal occupation, entrenches a culture of racism, hatred, and dehumanization against the Palestinian people, and allows for such crimes to happen shamelessly and fearlessly, and without any regret or accountability.”

“The only way for these crimes to end is for the illegal regime to cease to exist. International concern and outrage will not save Palestinian lives or possessions. They will neither protect Palestinians’ rights nor their dignity. The only responsible and moral response to these senseless crimes is accountability,” Ashrawi said.

Separately, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) said in a statement that Snobar’s murder will be a “curse that will continue to haunt Arab traitors” – in reference to the recent normalization deals by the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan.

“The response to this heinous crime is to withdraw the recognition of the Zionist entity and all agreements that resulted from it, and the formation of a unified national leadership capable of leading popular resistance against the Zionist occupation.”

Several Palestinian news outlets said Snobar was beaten to death by Israeli forces after a car chase near the town of Turmus Ayya on Saturday night.

The Palestinian Health Ministry said the teenager arrived at the hospital after being “severely beaten on the neck.”
