Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) on Wednesday announced that  they will be closing the Ibrahimi Mosque for 24 hours for the Jewish holidays.

“The Israeli occupation authorities gave us a statement saying they will close the compound starting tonight at 10:00 pm until Thursday at the same time, under the pretext of Jewish holidays,”  director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Hifthi Abu Sneineh told Wafa News Agency.

The closure means that the Muslim worshipers will not be allowed to enter the mosque to pray, the Adhan (call for prayers) will not be raised. Meanwhile, groups of Israeli settlers are expected to enter the mosque to celebrate their holiday.

Abu Sneineh told Quds Press that the closure coincides with the so-called “Jewish first day of September,” according to the Hebrew calendar.

Abu Sneineh said that the occupation authorities deliberately close the mosque for Muslim worshipers entirely during the Jewish holidays, under the decisions of the  “Shamgar”Israeli Committee , which was formed after the massacre of the Ibrahimi Mosque in 1994, and resulted in decisions to divide the mosque time and place for certain periods during the year.

He explained that the last closure of the mosque this year was on 12 – 13 last April, and that the date with another closure for five days during the month of September next, under the pretext of Jewish holidays.
