German government provides additional $8.4 million contribution to UNRWA

The German government will provide an additional $8.4 million in aid, increasing their total aid for UNRWA to $16 million designated to food assistance in the Gaza Strip.

The increase in funding comes after the United States decided to dramatically decrease their yearly contribution to UNRWA by $300 million.

United Nations representatives called upon member states to provide their yearly donations early in order to compensate for the unexpected lapse in funding.

“The funds will help meet the urgent humanitarian needs of Palestine Refugees in Gaza who are dependent on UNRWA’s support,” Acting Representative in Ramallah Bernd Keubart said.
