Israel plans new settlement in Jordan Valley

Israel is to set up a new illegal settlement in the northern Jordan Valley in occupied East Jerusalem, Channel 10 revealed.

The Israeli channel reported that the Ministry of Construction and Housing is planning to build a new settlement on a site called “Brosh” which currently houses a Zionist youth settlement.

It also mentioned that the plan includes the construction of 100 settlement units in an area where a number of caravans inhabited by 50 students are currently parked. Though these are now facing the threat of eviction.

The channel quoted the Minister of Construction and Housing Yoav Galant saying, “Brosh is a strategic and important security location” for Israel.

According to the report, a government ruling is required before the illegal settlement can be set up.

On 23 December 2016, the UN Security Council adopted a draft resolution that condemned settlements, stressing the fact that settlements are illegal and that they threaten the two-state solution as well as the peace process.
