The Media Committee of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ society, present the summary of the twenty-ninth day of the collective hunger strike, which was embarked by the prisoners’ movement in the Israeli jails, under the title of “Freedom and Dignity strike” since 17th April, 2017.

-Detainees carry on the battle of freedom and dignity in the Israeli jails, in request for their basic demands which are denied by the prisons’ administration, and which was achieved previously through embarking many hunger strikes. The most prominent demands include: ending the policy of administrative detention, ending the policy of solitary confinement, ending the policy of banning families’ and lawyers’ visits, ending the policy of medical negligence and other legitimate demands.

-For the fourth week of the strike, striking detainees entered a critical health condition; where they vomit all the time, suffer from vision impairment, fainting and weight loss for 20 kg of their original weight. In spite of this, they sent many messages confirming that they will continue the strike until their demands are achieved.

-The prisons’ administration still applying the policy of isolating striking detainees from the outside world, where it procrastinate in allowing lawyers to visit the majority of detainees, and put many of them in a list  of names who are forbidden from visits. Moreover, it deprives them from communicating with their families and transfers them between different cells and prisons.

-The Israeli Prison Service moves 36 detainees from Ofer prison to the so-called “field hospital” at Hadarim prison, knowing that it was a section for detainees and not appropriate to be a clinic. In these clinics, the role of doctors resembles the role of jailers who offer all kinds of food to the sick detainees and bargain them to provide medical treatment in return for ending the strike.

-The Independent Permanent Commission for the Human Rights of the Islamic Cooperation Organization called the group working on the cause of Palestine, during its meeting in Jeddah, to launch campaigns to support the Palestinian striking detainees and put pressure on Israel, the occupying power, especially in the Human Rights council to respond to their demands.

-The National Committee for supporting the strike issued a statement calling for considering the statement issued by the leader Marwan Barghouthi forms his isolation at the Jalamah detention center on 14/5/2017, a comprehensive national and political program for the Palestinian people. Moreover, it called for popular marches on the by-pass streets to disrupt the movement of settlers, boycott the Israeli goods, stop the security coordination in light of the continuation of detainees strike, and call on the Fatah Central Committee to assume its responsibilities and form a leading power to support the popular movement of the strike.
