Barghouthi calls on commemorating Nakba through unity, civil disobedience

The Media Committee of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ society, present the summary of the twenty-eighth day of the collective hunger strike, which was embarked by the prisoners’ movement in the Israeli jails, under the title of “Freedom and Dignity strike” since 17th April, 2017.

-Detainees carry on the battle of freedom and dignity in the Israeli jails, in request for their basic demands which are denied by the prisons’ administration, and which was achieved previously through embarking many hunger strikes. The most prominent demands include: ending the policy of administrative detention, ending the policy of solitary confinement, ending the policy of banning families’ and lawyers’ visits, ending the policy of medical negligence and other legitimate demands.

-The lawyer Khader Shkerat was able to visit Marwan Barghouthi for the first time at Jalamah isolation, where Barghouthi sent several letters to his comrades who are on hunger strike and to the Palestinian people and all factions and liberals of the world. He called for commemorating the Nakbah by uniting the popular movement of solidarity with detainees and starting a civilian disobedience.

-The lawyer Farah Bayadseh from Al-Dameer Institution was able to visit the leader Ahmad Sa’adat at the isolation of Ohilikdar prison. She said that he came to the visit handcuffed and looked very tired. He suffers from weight loss and paleness in his face. Sa’adat spoke about the measures carried out against him and his comrades by the prisons’ administration. He stated that “the prison administration brings the detainees out to the yard while being handcuffed and expose them to the hot sunbeams. Moreover, they live in poor, difficult and inhumane conditions, especially in this hot weather where they hold ten detainees in one cell”.

-The leader Sa’adat sent a number of messages, including; the importance and necessity of being cautious of the tricks and rumors spread by the occupation Prison Service, he also stressed on the detainees’ adherence to their collective demands and the legitimacy of their strike.

-The oldest detainee. Kareem Younis, sent a letter from his isolation in ‘Ayalon’ Ramlah prison stating;” that many representatives of the occupation Intelligence tried to hold fake and absurd negotiations aiming at eliminating the content of the battle in return for fake promises”.

-Detainees at Nafaha prison are suffering from fainting, where the lawyer was able to visit two of them; Muhammad Al-Ghoul and Yehia Ibrahim from the city of Tulkarem. The lawyer said that their health conditions are deteriorating, where some of them vomit blood and get moved to the field hospitals without receiving any treatment.

-According to the National Committee for supporting the strike, it decided that all the coming days will be considered as days of confrontation with the Israeli occupation in all locations. It also called for abiding by the declared commercial strike on Monday, May 15th from 11:00 to 2:00 pm, and transforming the events of commemorating the Nakba into confrontations with the occupation in all locations.
