The Media Committee of the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners’ society, present the summary of the sixteenth day of the “Freedom and Dignity strike”, which is conducted by the prisoners’ movement in the Israeli jails.
For the sixteenth day, Palestinian detainees continue the battle of freedom and dignity, which was launched by Palestinian detainees on April 17, 2017 to achieve their basic rights, from which they are deprived and which they have achieved previously through hunger strikes. Their demands are represented in ending the policy of administrative detention, solitary confinement and the prevention of lawyer and family visits and other legitimate demands.
The prisons’ administration continues to escalate against detainees on hunger strike, especially in moving them between prisons in order to undermine their determination. This action is accompanied by the deterioration of their health conditions after 16 days of the hunger strike.
Striking detainees from the Democratic Front in the Israeli jails decided to abstain from drinking water in May 7, 2017, if the prisons’ administration does not consider the demands of detainees seriously. Detainees affirmed by a letter “this decision came in response to the measures of the prisons’ administration and its attempt to end the hunger strike and refuse our fair demands”.
The Supreme Court of the occupation considers today the petition filed by the Human Rights Organizations, The Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and Adalah society at 11:00 am, demanding that lawyers be allowed to visit detainees on hunger strike, where the prisons’ administration prevented the visits since the beginning of the hunger strike.
A march of “freedom and dignity” will take place today at 5:00 pm, in front of the Nelson Mandela Square in Ramallah and the Saraya Square in Gaza.
A press conference will be held today at 10:00 am in participation with the National and Islamic authorities to address the latest developments of the hunger strike. This press conference will be held in the sit-in strike tent in front of the Martyr Yasser Arafat Square in Ramallah, coincides with a press conference in Gaza.
