UNRWA Employees Union on Monday has declared strike in the West Bank and Gaza offices in protest of UN rejecting to meet employee demands.
Head of the union Suheil al-Hindi said he “biggest protest” would take place on Tuesday as local employees in all UNRWA’s offices would go on strike including schools, he underlined, pointing out that all UNRWA’s employees in the northern Gaza Strip would take to the streets on Tuesday.
More escalatory steps would be taken over the next few days, according to his statements.
The Employees Union has previously accused the UNRWA administration of manipulating over Palestinian refugees’ rights in order to win some time and save money at the expense of refugees.
The union has also asked UNRWA to increase the employees’ salaries to cope with the high cost of living and to stop reducing services the organization offers to Palestinian refugees.
More protests would follow if the demands of the union were not met, the union warned.
