Israel considering “softening” bill on Muslim call for prayer

PNN/ Jerusalem/

The Hebrew radio on Sunday night said that the Israeli president office has been considering making changes to the bill which bans the Muslim call for prayers (Adhan), to make it only between 11 PM- 7AM only.

According to the radio, the office was trying to soften the resolution so that the higher court does not reject it. In addition, the Yehudit Hatoral right-wing party was demanding to add a condition which also bans the Adhan on Saturdays on the Jewish “Shabat Shalom”.

The resolution is expected to be voted on in the Knesset next Wednesday.

Last week, a bill which would ban the Adhan had passed the first reading in the Israeli Parliament (Knesset).
