On the 15th October MSF Spain organized a “Family fun day” in Sair Municipality Hall, with the support of Youth Sair Palestinian Club, which gathered 86 people , among which 62 were minors under 18 years, and 24 were over 18 years.
During the event, which lasted from 2pm to 4.30pm, MSF projected a video about its project on Mental Health, in Hebron Governorate. After that, it took place a puppet play, created in collaboration with Yes Theatre and which treats topics related to potential negative effects on the mental health of Palestinian population, under occupation, called “Let’s think together”. Both activities were addressed only to adult audience.
Children enjoyed recreational activities with drawing materials, games and balloons.
Through these activities, MSF Spain is helping the population of the occupied West Bank to early identification of potential mental health disorders and to develop a higher resilience capacity through coping mechanisms.
The attendees expressed their appreciation of the event and the activities in it, saying it was helpful for them during this traumatic time.
“It is very helpful to detect the changes in the behaviour of our kids –like smoking a lot or thinking of risk taking-. Emotionally it was strong but very meaningful” a Mother of martyr said referring to the puppet play.
Another mother of an ex-detainee said that “The play was very touching so I couldn’t watch it till the end. However I enjoyed staying with the kids and participating in their activities– they were very fun.”
