Israeli media on Thursday said that the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas has reportedly asked Israeli authorities for permission to attend the funeral of former president Shimon Peres in Jerusalem on Friday.
Despite being one of the founders of the Israeli state, after his passing at 93 years on Wednesday, Abbas sent a condolence letter to the Peres family, saying that he made “unremitting efforts to reach a permanent peace since the Oslo Accords until his last moments.”
Dozens of world leaders were invitied to attend t he funeral on Friday, which will will be attended by US president Barack Obama according to the White House.
In addition, sources said that the Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri will attend the funeral.
These acts have already flared a wave rage among the Palestinian people, since several genocides took place during Peres’s presidency, where hundreds of civilians were slaughtered and displaced, in addition to the fact that systematic Israeli oppression, settlement expansion, and occupation are all still ongoing since the start of Israel in 1948.
