As part of its Lost Childhood campaign, the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) hosted In collaboration with a number of local community organizations a Fun Run day for 500 kids from all over Palestinian cities in the west bank in Ramallah that aimed to mobilize both national and international partners to take action to preserve the childhood of Palestinian children.
PMRS employee, Cecil Khatib said that the goals of the campaign are implemented through working with children, parents and local stakeholders on the meaning of childhood and how to protect it even in the difficult context of the occupation
The “Fun Run” included a Marathon, traditional dancing, painting activities, to give the children the opportunity of joy, and to draw attention to Israeli violations of children’s rights in Palestine.
Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, President of PMRS told PNN that the campaign has been raising international attention towards the systematized nature of Israeli violations against children, and its impact not only on the mental state of an entire generation of but also on any chances of a lasting peace in the near future.
Head of the European Union in Palestinian territory Ralf Traf said in an interview with PNN that it is very important to give the children a space to express themselves, especially under such difficult conditions, stressing the EU’s commitment to two-state solution, which might bring Palestinians children the opportunity to live in peace and freedom
PMRS launched this campaign after Israel targeting Palestinian children, killing 59 children and arrested 700 in the last year alone.
